Kappa Delta is proud to serve five national and historical philanthropies, which are: The Children's Home Society (CHS), Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA), The Girl Scouts of the USA, The Orthopedic Research Awards, and The Children’s Hospital of Richmond, Virginia. Here at the Kappa Alpha chapter, we work hard to support these philanthropies by hosting multiple events throughout the year to fundraise and help with the success of each organization.
Children's Home Society
Children's Home Society (CHS) is an organization that assists children and families facing heartbreaking challenges such as abuse and abandonment. In 2017, we were able to donate over $29,000 to CHS because of the funds we raised through our annual fall philanthropy event "Kick It with KD." We strive to make significant financial contributions, setting our fundraising goals higher each year, to help this organization continue in their incredible work.
"Kick It with KD" participants form teams to spend a fun day at the Florida State intramural fields for a soccer tournament. But this isn't just any soccer tournament; the players wear air-filled bubbles during the games! It is a guaranteed good time whether you are a player bumping bubbles with your buddies or a spectator enjoying the show.
Prevent Child Abuse America
Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA) is an organization very near and dear to the hearts of all Kappa Deltas; it was founded by our late sister, Donna Stone. Their mission is to protect our Nation's children from abuse and neglect through preventative efforts. In 2018, our spring philanthropy event, "Color Me KD", raised over $30,000 for this deserving cause.
"Color Me KD" is a 5k run that takes place in the Spring. During this event people of all ages (and dogs too!) participate in a 5k color run to support this great cause. Once they run through the finish line, participants and sisters dance to great music, toss color powder, enjoy a snow cone, and take pictures with our colorful decorations. This event is a favorite for our chapter women and community alike!
Girl Scouts of the USA
In 1998, Kappa Delta Sorority welcomed Girl Scouts of the USA as one of our National philanthropies. Through this incredible partnership, Kappa Delta members make a difference in the lives of countless girls across the country. Kappa Delta is proud to help Girl Scouts “build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”
Kappa Alpha chapter women serve as mentors to our local Girl Scout troop by reinforcing our common values of honesty, integrity, friendship, and leadership. We host confidence-building events and create friendships with the Girl Scouts at our house, and help them sell Girl Scout cookies during their annual cookie sales on the Florida State campus!
